This picture aims to answer this question by setting this simple example. In today's society, appearances are considered true reality. It is indeed far from the real truth. 

The apple is bitten even though its appearence does not say the same. However, it may not be that simple when applied to real life since appearances and reality are often hard to distinguish. This statement leads us to question the realness of things beyond their apparent reality. Furthermore, people's capacity of differencing these two concepts also plays an important role when trying to figuer out the ultimate reality.
